Praia to Brava Ferry
Search Praia → Brava ferries
There is no direct ferry from Praia to Brava. To reach Brava from the capital, passengers must first take the ferry from Praia to Fogo and then connect to the Fogo to Brava service. Brava has no airport, so the ferry via Fogo is the only way to get there.
How the Connection Works
The journey involves two separate ferry legs. The first leg is the Praia to Fogo crossing, which takes approximately 4 hours and arrives at the port of São Filipe. From São Filipe, you then board the Fogo to Brava ferry for a 1 hour crossing to Furna port on Brava. The total travel time is 5 to 6 hours plus connection time between the two services.
The Vessel
Both legs of the journey are served by the Kriola, the CV Interilhas vessel that operates the Linha Sotavento route connecting Santiago, Fogo and Brava. The ship runs on a regular weekly circuit, and on some sailing days both legs can be completed on the same day.
Planning the Connection
On certain days the Kriola continues directly from Fogo to Brava after arriving from Praia. On other days there may be an overnight wait in São Filipe. Check both legs on Ondas before booking to see which days offer same-day connections. If you do need to overnight on Fogo, São Filipe has a good selection of guesthouses and restaurants.
Practical Tips
Buy tickets for both legs in advance when possible. Bring food and water for the longer Praia to Fogo crossing. The sea between Fogo and Brava can be rough despite the short distance, so keep seasickness remedies handy. Arrive at the port well before departure — ferries in Cape Verde do not wait.
What to Expect on Brava
Brava is the smallest inhabited island in Cape Verde. It is green, mountainous, and quiet. The main town of Nova Sintra sits high above the port and offers cool breezes and flower-filled streets. There are no resorts and very few tourists — the island rewards those who appreciate slow travel, hiking, and local culture.
